Wat Na Kuam Tai is a beautiful, although little-known place, especially for foreign tourists. The temple located in a quiet area has an important meaning for the local people, as well as delights with its appearance. This article will introduce you to this attraction, and we invite you to visit here.
Wat Na Kuam Tai – a place with over a hundred years of history
The temple was built in 1907. In 1949, it was granted Visungkhamasima. It is a royal privilege, thanks to which monks receive land separated from the country. Temples that have received the privilege have legal status.
Here we will add an important piece of information. There are two temples in Lampang with a similar name – Wat Na Kuam Tai (วัดนาก่วมใต้) and Wat Na Kuam Nuea (วัดนาก่วมใต้). The word tai means south, and nuea means north.
The distance between these objects is 1.3 km. Wat Na Kuam Nuea is located near the railway tracks between the railway station and the Black Bridge. Wat Na Kuam Tai is practically in a straight line towards the south.
Structures of the complex
The largest building here is the Ubosot (Ordination Hall). On either side of the stairs are Nagas guarding the entrance to the temple. Next to the images of the Nagas stand two more objects – a small Ubosot and a statue of the Enlightened One called Phra Phuttha Ratana Muni Chakravarti.
It is also worth paying attention to the elaborately decorated doors depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha. The sculptures are made in gold on a red background.
The interior of the Ubosot is very spacious and contains more Buddha monuments, including the main statue in the temple. In addition, there are also images of the Royal Family and various exhibits.
Near the entrance there is a colorful Bell Tower. Next to it are two other smaller buildings. The first one is Buraphachan Hall. The name refers to the ancestors, the first teachers. People who come here ask for blessings and fulfillment of wishes. The second building is the Temple Abbot’s Hall.
On the other side of the Ubosot are the monks’ quarters and various halls, in front of which stand statues of Buddha, saints, and giants. The Na Kuam Tai Market is also close by. To get to it, you have to leave the temple through the gate on the west side.
