Kad Kong Ta – a market with a long tradition

The origins of the market probably date back to 1877 during the reign of King Rama V. At that time, Kad Kong Ta was a place of great importance for trade. Many merchants came here from Siam, China, Burma, and Western countries. This also contributed to architectural diversity. While walking around the market square, you can notice buildings in different styles. These buildings have been passed down from generation to generation, making Kad Kong Ta a beautiful historic site.

In 1916, the importance of this trading center decreased slightly due to the construction of railway lines in northern Thailand – also to Lampang. This resulted in the population moving closer to the railway station and settling in the surrounding areas.

The market has regained its former glory and today is both a great tourist attraction in Lampang and a great place for shopping.
