Baan Kum-On is a restaurant with its own vibe. It is located in an old house made in traditional Thai style. If you want to try local cuisine, this is the perfect place to do it.

Baan Kum-On – a bit about the history of the restaurant

When visiting the restaurant, you can see two wooden houses. The first one was built of teak wood in 1928 by its first owner, Luang Prakobwanakit. He was the director of the Royal Forest Department. The house that stands at the back was later sold and became a wedding gift for Kumdaeng Krueanant and his wife, Kum on. He was an official at the Ministry of Justice of Myanmar.

The second house was built of ironwood in 1957. It was used as a pharmacy and a grocery store.

The Naothawong family took care to keep both houses in their original condition and named the estate Baan Kum-On in honor of their grandparents, Kumdaeng and Kum on.

Food and prices

The restaurant specializes in northern Thai cuisine. It makes a visit here a great way to eat authentic dishes from this region. At Baan Kum-On, you can also try the Hang Le Curry, made according to Chao Thipchak’s secret recipe.

In addition, the offer is diversified with European cuisine, as well as a wide selection of drinks and wine.

We decided to have local cuisine, and we really liked it. The food was well-prepared, which helped us enjoy its distinctive taste.

Before the meal, we toured the house. There is such a possibility, and the upper floor also serves as a restaurant when there are more guests.

We will also add that the staff is very helpful and friendly, and the dishes are nicely presented and decorated.

When it comes to prices, the average is around 500-600 THB for a meal for one person. It applies to a full meal, e.g., dinner.
